India was very different from China with more visual signs of poverty.
Trash and garbage mounds in the streets. A guide, driver and van was
hired to take us to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. The driver told us that when
driving in India you need three things: (l) good brakes (2) a good
horn, and (3) good luck!. It was scary, especially on two-lane roads.
There were not just cars and trucks of all sizes, but also mopeds,
bikes, pedestrians, cows, camels, donkey carts, three wheeled taxis
(tuk-tuks), rickshaws, etc. all entering the road from different
directions. We all agreed that we should add a fourth need: (4) a good
driver! Fortunately, we had a very capable driver and we completed the
trip without an accident. The most unusual sight was a moped with a
driver, then two goats straddled sideways, and then another person on
the back. Unfortunately, we were not quick enough on the draw to get a
picture.

The Taj Mahal could
be seen in the distance. Shah Jahan
was imprisoned in this palace after
his wife died because his son wanted
power over the kingdom. He was imprisoned in a room where
he could see his beloved Taj Mahal. |
