We just returned from a very fancy, formal dinner with the President of our University. This event was held at the "State House" on the grounds of the gardens of the Song Dynasty (1,000 yrs.). The States House was very grand and beautiful as you can see. The gardens were absolutely beautiful but the lights didn't show up with my camera...notice the beautiful waterfall...green lights were on. Formal receiving line with many dignitaries from the State Offices of International Relations...important people. Each of us was placed at a table with a dignitary between us. You can notice the menu...9 courses...we were so full and the meal was delicious. They didn't serve any of the Kennedy Teachers wine but we toasted with water. Kennedy teachers have been coming here for about 20 years so I guess they just know. Each dignitary would make it around the room to toast each other in government positions, etc. Very formal way...they click their glasses three times and exchanges formal greetings. Notice, the red carpet...it was rolled out for us! There are 19 foreign faculty here from England, France, Japan, and U.S. You know that I loved the fancy presentation. We would enjoy visiting the gardens in the day time but the public is not permitted to enter. A very fascinating evening! We were told to dress beautifully...
