Lane's 70's Birthday - Beijing, China Apr 13, 2012

We met at the Big Red Buddha - this is Peking University Area

Happy Birthday Lane

Lane found a restaurant door that matched his hat

We enjoyed a fantastic Mexican food lunch at LaBama.
The double stuff Oreo's are for the Rancie's that haven' arrived yet.
They love Oreos and have never had the double stuffed.  Thanks
for bring them Lindsay, Laney and Ryan.

Rob and Rae Rancie from Australia  arrived. They are on a humanitarian mission in China

After a yummy lunch, we started our tour of the
old Summer Palace - Royal Gardens

This is a huge park where the first Summer Palace was added to in the
1750's but had been laid out in the 11th century.  Unfortunately,
it was burned down, rebuilt, destroyed and burned again.  The Empress
of the Quing Dynasty "diverted" the money from the Navy and added
to the a New Summer Palace built in the same area.  Such beautiful Royal Gardens.

This man is blowing a taffy like hot mixture in to all sorts of animals...

These little creatures are editable

Such a pleasant, peaceful garden

We took a boat ride around one of the lakes

This was a European designed Temple that was hit with cannons
by the British and French during the Opium Wars.

These pools had fountains in the middle...water ran  under the area

It seems like the stones have been stacked perfectly to show the destruction

This was a massive Temple or worship

This was the only standing bridge after the rampage...there were 300 bridges like this

We ended our day for the birthday celebration at the Ganges Indian Restaurant
with 11 of the Kennedy Teachers...great dinner.

Lori gave Lane a very clever present with 70 items and a cute poem

The Thelers gave a good "roast" to Lane...very clever using all of the items on the table.

Happy 70th Birthday...
