Tree Temple - Siem Reap, Cambodia

The Temple has been destroyed by nature and man. These Shung trees start growing from wherever their seeds land. India is taking this project on to restore this Hindu Temple. Looks like it will take over 100 years to restore. All changes, repairs, etc. has to go through UNESCO. All of the work is done by Cambodians but the Indian Government pays for the project to restore the cultural heritage of the Hindu religion.

It is like dominoes...one block of stone falls and they all go down.

This mess would make  you cry...a huge puzzle.

The tree is alive!

This tree is used in many movies - the latest was Tomb Raider with
Angelina Jolee  (P.S. I'm surprised Mom remembered the
name of this movie and the actress.  She's getting more hip and
 knowledgeable by the minute.)

You can see into eternity through all of these windows

These trees are destroying this beautiful Temple
That is still the root of the tree

Very sad mess!  Where to start ??

Another view of the famous tree

Look at the door frame

The project sponsored by India shows before and after.
This took 10 years to complete - just this area.

This is the finished area - just a few months ago

The project  has to get permission to cut down any trees

Blocks have been numbered...what a puzzle to put together

  We had another amazing day.
