The Floating School and Village - Sien Reap

We went to school today...a floating school near Sien Reap, Cambodia. We drove many miles through very sad poverty...families trying to find a way to feed their children.

Everyone in our group brought things for the children - shampoo, soap,
pencils, paper, sweet treat,  tissues - we had fun passing out the goodies.

We drove to the river to board a boat  to see the floating village. 
The people never need to leave their house boats for food 
as the food comes to their boats.  What do you need ...lettuce, 
bananas, rice?  The lady in the middle boat is cooking  food and
 selling it to the people on house boats.  What could be more convenient!

This is our guide while in Sien Reap - His family was killed in the Civil War 
and he was sent to a refugee camp at 14 years old.

The group of British NGO's were helping build some sort of structure 
for the people.  Notice the bamboo that is used to float the building.

A floating home.

During the rainy season the water goes to the top of the trees.  The people
 have to float their homes to another location on the river.

Look at the color of this water.  Used for washing clothes, dishes, bathing. 
 People did have containers for boiled water.

Very simple living.  Notice the water jugs on the side of the house

These children come up to the side of our boat and wanted a dollar (US) if you take their picture  with the snake around the boys neck.

Notice the fancy roof.  Not sure what is under that orange net...could be fish that they keep alive until they need them.

This little boy is enjoying the morning in the hammock.

This little girl was yelling "a dollar, a dollar".  The water was quite choppy and the father drove off.  The little boy is sound asleep and soaking wet from the splashing water.

This little boy in the dish pan was begging for a dollar...one dollar!  He had snake in the dish pan.

Papa had to wrap the snake around his neck so he could give the little boy just one dollar!

Let's see, we need some lettuce, maybe some onions...she picks them out on puts them on the floor of her house.

Cemetary

These young men float the tree branches out into the river ...pull them in and pick out the crabs that hold to the limbs.

Rice paddies - the orange thing in the water is a lady working in the paddy.  What an amazing experience.
